Alcohol for ₹99 in Andhra Pradesh Starting from THIS Date Under the New Liquor Policy

Starting October 12, consumers in Andhra Pradesh will be able to purchase liquor at affordable rates under the new excise policy. Approved by the State Cabinet on September 18, the policy allows the purchase of 180 ml of any liquor brand for ₹99. This move is expected to generate ₹5,500 crore in revenue for the state government.

On Tuesday, the Andhra Pradesh government announced a new liquor policy aimed at boosting revenue from alcohol sales, similar to policies in Haryana and other states. A notification has been issued for granting licenses to 3,736 private shops statewide. According to the government notification, licenses for selling Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL) and foreign liquor (FL) will be awarded to private individuals or entities through a selection process. These licenses will be valid from October 12, 2024, to September 30, 2026.

A total of 340 shops will be allocated to the 'Geetha Kulalu' community, a toddy tapping group, as part of the new liquor policy to promote empowerment, equity, and social justice. The shops will be selected through a lottery system, allowing applicants to apply for multiple outlets. Each applicant must pay a non-refundable fee of ₹2 lakh for each shop. This new excise policy is projected to generate ₹5,500 crore in revenue.

Additionally, applicants can apply for premium store licenses under a special category of the excise policy. The state government will issue 12 premium store licenses to enhance the retail experience in Andhra Pradesh. These premium stores will be located in major cities, including Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Rajamahendravaram, Kakinada, Guntur, Nellore, Kurnool, Kadapa, Anantapur, and other cities as notified by the state government.
